Hau Pham is an emerging artist based in Vaughan, Ontario. She is 2021 graduate of OCAD University, with a specialization in Drawing and Painting, and continues to work at OCAD's Faculty and Curriculum Development Centre as a Community Animator. Her work draws heavy influence from her South-East Asian Heritage and Buddhist beliefs. Her practice relies on the intersection of one’s relationship with the object, and the perception of Asian women in the western world. Hau’s research and inspiration is largely pulled from her personal experiences, and from her friends and family who fit into the same group identity. Her works are both a reflection and investigation into the guilt, exhilaration, and confusion of the Asian feminine experience.

What do you listen to when you work?
I usually listen to K-pop or classical music. Occasionally I will let Studio Vlogs of Illustrators on YouTube play in the background.

Walk my dogs, read a book or articles, bike around my neighborhood.
What artists do you admire right now?
Kerry James Marshall, Dominque Fung, Tristram Lansdowne, Osamu Kobayashi.
What kind of artwork do you have in your home?
Besides my own work, my parents have a lot of traditional lacquer plaques and porcelain statues from Vietnam.
Which piece of art you've created is your favourite, and why?
My painting "After Prom" is probably my most favourite work to date. It's one of the smallest paintings I ever created, but I think it's the best example of the direction my practice is heading to.
